Connecting the CORE sensor to Wahoo bike computers
Overview
The process for connecting a CORE sensor to your Wahoo bike computer will depend on your hardware generation. The newest generation ACE, ROAM 3 and BOLT 3 devices use a slightly different approach to legacy hardware. The Wahoo Rival Watch does not allow the CORE sensor to be paired.
Newest generation
On the latest generation of Wahoo devices e.g. the ELEMNT ACE, pairing with the CORE Sensor is done directly on the device itself, similar to a powermeter or HRM. However it is more convenient to use the Wahoo Smartphone App to setup the activity profile pages (screen) to display live data. For an in-depth guide, also refer to the walk-through from Wahoo here.
CORE data will be stored in the subsequent activity FIT file. If you connect your Wahoo account to a third-party analytics platform such as TrainingPeaks or intervals.icu, you will see data for further analysis.
NOTE: please make sure to Pair your Heart Rate Monitor to your CORE.
STEP 1 - Pair the CORE Sensor with your Wahoo
A. Shake the CORE sensor to ensure that it is on (look for the blinking green LED)
B. Navigate to sensors and press on add a sensor (plus symbol)
C. Select the CORE Sensor, shown as a "Body Temp" Sensor. The ANT+ ID should correspond to the one printed on the rear of your CORE sensor. Make sure not to pair any sensors which are shown as Muscle Oxygen
D. Automatically add the core body temperature data field to your workout data and check if the sensor is shown as a connected sensor in the list. It is using a thermometer symbol.
E. The easiest way to change which metrics are displayed on your Wahoo, use the Wahoo Smartphone App.
|
In the app check the sensor is paired and then select "workout profiles" |
Choose the activity profile and then select "workout pages" |
Navigate to to the page where you want to add CORE metrics |
|
In the data field menu, select "Body Temperature" |
You can choose from various metrics, including graphs |
You will then see CORE metrics, including HSI and heat zones |
Legacy hardware
Setup requires the Wahoo ELEMNT Smart Phone App. It is possible to pair to a new sensor like the CORE Sensor directly on the Wahoo bike computer, however the ELEMNT Smart Phone app is usually required to setup the pages (screen) to display live data.
STEP 1 - Pair your Heart Rate Monitor to the CORE sensor
Pair your Heart Rate Monitor to your CORE.
This is essential for using the CORE sensor for sports for the best accuracy.
If you use TrainingPeaks for data analysis you will also need to enable "Wahoo Support" in the CORE app. Navigate to the sensor settings, select 'Advanced settings' then select 'enable' under compatibility mode. Close the settings menu.

To ensure setting are saved on the sensor, perform a manual reboot of the CORE. Rub the magnetic end of the charging cable on the rear side, bottom right quadrant. The green LED should quickly flash to indicate a reboot.
STEP 2 - Add CORE sensor to WAHOO
A. Shake the CORE sensor to ensure that it is on (look for the blinking green LED)
B. Inside the WAHOO ELEMNT App, go to Settings, select device -> Set-up Sensors
C. Look inside "unsaved sensors" for ‘BODY TEMP’ or 'CORE + last 4 digits of serial number'. This will be the CORE sensor which has been identified. Additionally, to enable temperature data analysis in TrainingPeaks, you should also pair as 'MUSCLE OXYGEN'
D. Click and save it. The CORE sensor is now paired.
STEP 3 - Setup Data fields on Wahoo
Datafields need to be assigned so that the WAHOO bike computer can display real-time core body temperature.
A. Inside the WAHOO ELEMNT App select an existing 'Page' or make a new custom Page
|
|
B. Add/Edit the data fields and choose:
Body Temperature > Body Temp
Muscle Oxygen > Total Hemoglobin (THB) for core temp or Saturated Hemoglobin (SMO2 %) for skin temp
C. Save the changes. You will now be able to see temperature live on screen.
Setup is now complete
